Did you know that Acupuncture can help to balance your gut health?

The Gut-Nervous System Connection

As an acupuncturist, I spend a surprising amount of time talking about digestion. Our gut health is the cornerstone of all health, acting as the foundation for immunity, digestion, and mental well-being. If your digestive system isn’t happy, nothing else works quite right. Energy drops, mood tanks, skin flares, sleep is off— this is where acupuncture shines and can be a great treatment option!

Acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system, especially the vagus nerve—the communication superhighway between your brain and your gut. When you’re stressed, your body is in fight-or-flight mode, and digestion gets put on hold. Acupuncture helps shift you into rest-and-digest mode, where enzymes flow, motility improves, and your gut can finally do its job.

Acupuncture helps to regulate gut motility, reduce inflammation, and alleviate stress, making it a great treatment option to help manage conditions like:

  • GERD
  • Nausea
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • IBS

An Eastern Medicine Perspective

From an Acupuncturist’s perspective, we’re supporting organs like the Spleen and Stomach. Which, despite the names, have more to do with metabolism, absorption, and energy than anatomy alone. When these systems are out of balance, symptoms like bloating, loose stools, reflux, or sluggish digestion can show up. Acupuncture helps bring things back into rhythm while calming your nervous system.

What to Expect From Treatment

Treatments are individualized and often involve points on the arms, legs, ears, back or abdomen that send calming, regulating signals throughout the body. Many patients are shocked at how painless and relaxing an acupuncture session can be.

I usually suggest one hour acupuncture treatments once a week for 4 weeks to help re-set your gut health. If you’ve never had acupuncture before and have specific questions for me please reach out to our office. I’m happy to do a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation with you!
