Annual Well Female Exams
Did you know that our Doctors have specialized training in dealing with gynecological disorders. We perform a comprehensive annual examination, which includes: a complete health history, physical examination, breast exam, pelvic exam, pap smear and blood tests. In addition to the examination, you will have a report of findings appointment where the doctor will review all of the findings from your exam; any actions needed and continued preventative measures you can take to stay healthy. We promise no postcards in the mail or voice messages that your pap was “normal”.
Additionally, in the event that you have any abnormalities in your exam and testing, we offer safe and effective natural treatments to deal with cervical cellular changes, yeast or other vaginal infections, uterine fibroids and benign ovarian cysts.
Breast, Cervical and Ovarian Cancer
Routine screening tests and exams are the key to early detection of most common cancers. In your annual well female exam, you will receive a thorough breast exam and education on the best way to perform your own self-exam. A breast self-exam combined with a doctor’s exam yearly remains the most effective way to identify lumps that may be cancerous. The pap test we perform is the most advanced available and not only does it evaluate for cellular changes of the cervix, but will screen for the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) which is the major cause of cervical cancer. Early detection of the virus allows it to be treated and prevent cancerous cellular changes that may occur down the road.
In addition to your exam, the Doctors and you will discuss your current and past medical history. If indicated, we can perform functional testing which may include advanced genetic testing that include tumor markers, such as CA 125 which identifies ovarian cancer, or methylation and detoxification deficiencies. The genetic defects or SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphism), if left untreated, could lead to cancer. See the section related to epigenetic modulation for more info.
Did you know that there is a blood test available that will screen for cancer anywhere in the body? Believe it or not, this test is not new and has been around for some time. Why it is not more commonly known or used by most medical doctors, we don’t know.
In our office we offer the AMAS test. When cancer cells develop in the body they have an antigen called malignin on their cell walls. This is true for any type of cancer. When these cells are detected by your immune system, an antibody called Anti-malignin antibody is produced to fight off these cells. The AMAS test measures the levels of this antibody in your blood. The AMAS test is very sensitive to this antibody, which means if elevated levels are present the test is very accurate at detecting them. The test however will not tell us the location or type of cancer it is detecting. The test often detects cancers far before the outward signs would be detected on any other testing.
The AMAS test is an excellent general screen to rule our any cancerous processes. Even if your test were to be elevated, further screening to locate the problem will begin sooner than with any other method, and we all know that early detection is the key to cancer survival.
